Iron Chef Comes to the West Chicago Public Library District

Local teens compete for the title “Iron Chef” at the West Chicago Public Library District.

[West Chicago, Illinois] [July 23, 2012]: The energy was electric and the tension built as the judging began at the West Chicago Public Library District’s very own Iron Chef: Teen competition last week. Whose cuisine would reign supreme?

Based on the popular Food Network program Iron Chef: America, five teams totaling 28 teens had 90-minutes to prepare a three-course meal with each dish to contain the secret ingredient, in this case lime. With unbelievable creativity, each team created three amazing dishes for the judges to taste. The imaginative cuisine included such well thought out taste treats as lime tuna crostini, open-faced lime chicken sandwich with pineapple, melted cheese and chives, and banana/lime pudding with fresh fruit.

“This was fun,” said Administrative Librarian Melody E. Coleman. “The program room was lively and buzzing with excitement for this interactive and engaging activity. The Library was definitely a top choice destination for the 13-18 year olds participating in this recreational program.”

In the end, it was the team of Catherine Bass, Sophia Bass, Ricky Robinson, and Abbey McCleery, all of West Chicago, who ruled the day, winning bragging rights of “Iron Chefs” as well as the admiration of judges and spectators alike. What a fitting finale for the Library’s “Reading Is So Delicious” state-wide summer reading program!
