HONK! takes center stage during West Chicago Park District production

  he Musical

West Chicago, Ill.—Over 55 aspiring actors ages 7 through adult will sing, dance, and of course, act and talk like ducks, during the West Chicago Park District Community Theatre’s production of HONK!, winner of the 2000 Oliver Award for Best Musical.

HONK! takes center stage on Thursday and Friday, July 26 and 27, 7 p.m. and on Saturday, July 28, 2 p.m. at Wheaton Academy Fine Arts Center, 900 Prince Cross Rd., West Chicago.

Tickets are currently available through the Park District office, 157 W. Washington St., for $7 and $10 at the door.

This entertaining and enchanting musical for the entire family is based on the beloved children’s classic, The Ugly Duckling, by Hans Christian Andersen and tells the story of an odd looking baby duck named Ugly. While on his quest to find his mother, Ugly encounters a cast of friendly and unlikely characters including a wily cat and a beautiful Swan.

According to Chelsea McKone, recreation coordinator for the West Chicago Park District and the show’s producer, HONK! is about life lessons that everyone can relate to.

“The show combines several elements,” McKone said. “It’s a comedy, a musical, and a love story all rolled into one and great entertainment for the whole family on a warm summer night. I’m really excited to bring this fun musical to our program this year.”

The show is directed by Jamee Kenney. The music is directed by Megan Green and choreographed by Corrine Reggio.
