Nominating petition forms for the April 7, 2009 school board election in Community High School District 94 are now available. Forms may be picked up in the office of the local election official at 326 Joliet Street, West Chicago, on any business day between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Please note the offices will be closed on November 26, 27 and 28, 2008 for Thanksgiving, from December 22, 2008 through January 2, 2009 for Winter Break; and Monday, January 19, 2009 in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
A school board candidate's petition must be filed in the same office no earlier than Tuesday, January 20, 2009 from 8:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. and no later than 5:00 P.M. on Monday, January 26, 2009.
Candidates' names will appear on the election ballot in the order in which the nominating petitions are received in the office of the local election official. Four (4) seats on the seven-member Board of Education will be filled at the April 7th election. Candidates will serve four-year terms, expiring in April 2013.
To be eligible to serve, a school board member must be, on the date of election, a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years old, a resident of the State of Illinois and the school district for at least one year immediately preceding the election, and be a registered voter.
Elections are non-partisan and board candidates do not indicate a political party affiliation. Candidates should be aware of financial conflict-of-interest limitations set forth in The School Code. Nominating papers may be filed by the candidate in person, by mail, or by an agent and consist of the following:
- Nominating petitions signed by at least 50 voters residing within the district. Petitions must be securely bound together with pages numbered consecutively, and each page must carry the notarized signature of the petition circulator.
- Statement of candidacy, which includes a request that the candidate's name be placed on the official ballot, the address of the candidate, the office sought, and a statement that the candidate is qualified for the office and has filed (or will file before the close of the petition filing period) a statement of economic interests as required by the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act.
- Receipt from the DuPage County Clerk showing that the candidate has filed the statement of economic interests, as noted above.
Other important dates for candidates are:
- Monday, February 2: The last day for filing objections to nominating papers in the office of the local election official.
- Monday, February 2: The last day for candidates to withdraw from nomination.
