Volunteer Art Teachers Needed

The Kids Art program at the People’s Resource Center exists to promote creative expression, critical thinking, and interpersonal functioning to at-risk youth in DuPage County. We work with 14 different neighborhood resource centers in the county to provide weekly after school and summer art experiences for children ages 6-15 years old. We supply volunteer instructors and supplies and the classes take place at the resource centers we partner with. Last year, nearly 900 children took advantage of this program. Our dedicated volunteers provide these children with encouragement to help build self-esteem as well as a wealth of exciting projects to keep them occupied. Participating in Kids Art allows the children to partake in productive after school activities and gives them opportunities that they may not otherwise have.

We currently need volunteers to teach weekly Kids Art classes at two sites in West Chicago and one in Wheaton. The location of the sites are as follows:
Riverwoods Neighborhood Education Center (801 Lorlyn Drive, West Chicago)
Westwood Neighborhood Resource Center (1209 Kings Circle, West Chicago)
Marian Park Resource Center (2088 W. Roosevelt Road, Wheaton)

Days and times are flexible, but the classes must take place on weekdays between 3:00pm and 6:00pm. Volunteers must commit to an hour of teaching a week. We will provide the volunteer with supplies and a binder of project ideas and resources.

If you are interested in volunteering with the People’s Resource Center Kids Art program, contact Lesley Gena at 630.682.5402 extension 241.

People’s Resource Center helps those in need in DuPage County become victors of circumstances. We depend on compassionate volunteers and donors to provide food, clothing, housing assistance, literacy programs, computer training and access, job search guidance, art studio classes and ongoing encouragement.
