Alderman Garcia immigrated from Havana, Cuba to Chicago, Illinois in 1961, and became a naturalized citizen in 1970. He graduated from Lane Technical High School, and earned an Associate Degree in Mechanical Design from Wright City College. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Management from National Louis University. He became Certified in Production & Inventory Management, and taught Supply Chain Management courses at Waubonsee Community College for 12 years.
In 1982 he joined Suncast Corporation in Batavia, where he moved through various positions over the next 33 years from Product Design Manager to Master Planner. He retired on February 1, 2016.
Alderman Garcia and his wife of 43 years, Maria, lived in Naperville until 2014 when they decided to downsize after becoming empty nesters. They found their “perfect place” in West Chicago. They have two grown children and one grandchild.
Alderman Garcia enjoys working out, alternating between weight training, boxing, swimming, and bike riding. He is a student of History, and enjoys building aircraft scale models.
His appointment to Alderman of the 6th ward is his first venture into local government. He serves on the Infrastructure and Public Affairs Committees.
