This newsletter is to inform you that the 2012 Clayton Street Reconstruction Project is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of June 11, 2012. Construction is scheduled to be completed by October 2012.
The project includes reconstruction of Clayton Street between Conde Street and Spencer Street. This project has been made possible by City funds and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds received from the DuPage County Community Development Commission. Funds were awarded to the City based on deteriorated roadway conditions and inadequate stormwater drainage along Clayton Street.
This project will include typical improvements of a reconstruction project such as new pavement and curb, replacement of the sidewalk with handicap accessible ramps, and replacement of the storm sewer, water main, and sanitary sewer service lines. Clayton Street will become a two-way, two-lane roadway with on- street parking relocated to the west side of the street to improve safety and mobility along the route. The project also includes new sidewalk along both sides of the street and new street lights to improve safety in the neighborhood.
Other improvements include new water main installation on the north side of Conde Street, between Clayton Street and Sycamore Avenue. This also includes the installation of new water service lines within the City right-of-way for residential homes located between Clayton Street and Sycamore Avenue.
Clayton Street will be closed to all traffic during construction. Alternate public parking will be made available, with Police Department approval, along Spencer Street between Clayton Street and Sycamore Avenue. Please follow all posted construction and temporary parking signs.
Please note all construction activities are scheduled to take place between 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, and 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM on Saturday.
As the work progresses, the City will update you on the project's status. Please visit www.westchicago.org periodically for the latest construction news update. If you should have any questions regarding the 2012 Clayton Street Reconstruction Project, please contact:
