This newsletter is to inform you that the 2016 Sidewalk Maintenance Program is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of Monday, October 3, 2016. Construction is scheduled to be completed by October 31, 2016.
The proposed work includes the removal and replacement of deficient sidewalk at various locations throughout the City as well as some roadway curb and gutter repair. The work being done will neither address all sidewalk deficiencies in your neighborhood nor deficiencies with the curb and gutter; instead, replacements will concentrate on the worst sidewalk trip hazards centered around public facilities (i.e., schools, day care centers, churches, government buildings, etc.) as budgeted dollars allow.
Please note that some sidewalk replacement may be located across residential driveways. In this case, driveway access will be restricted during removal operations and immediately after replacement while the concrete cures and dries. The curing process typically takes 5 days from the time the concrete is poured. Please notify the City’s police department via 911 if overnight street parking is required at your residence during construction.
Construction activities for this project are scheduled between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM Monday through Friday and between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM on Saturday. After sidewalk replacement, barriers will be placed on both ends of the sidewalk to prevent residents from utilizing the sidewalk. The City respectively requests that if anyone witnesses the new sidewalk being defaced, please notify the City at (630) 293-2255 or call the City’s police department via 911 to report the incident.
As the work progresses, the City will update you on the project’s status. Please visit www.westchicago.org periodically for the latest construction news update. If you should have any questions regarding the 2016 Sidewalk Maintenance Project, please contact:
