Healthy West Chicago is happy to be working with Common Threads again this winter to offer FREE cooking classes for students in grades 3 – 8. Join them for this 5 week session of Cooking Skills & World Cuisine, starting every Wednesday from January 10 – February 7, 2018 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Rockwell Building behind St. Michael’s UCC Church, at 108 Sherman Ave.
Cooking Skills and World Cuisine is a dynamic hands-on cooking class that engages students’ tastes and minds. Each class explores a different country’s cuisine and teaches young chefs how to follow a recipe, prepare and cook ingredients, and leave the kitchen as clean as they found it. This class challenges students to use a wide variety of cooking equipment and ensures that they know how to safely and effectively use each tool, including chef’s knives, graters, peelers, stoves and ovens. The program teaches students how to cook a balanced healthy meal that includes whole grains, lean protein, fruits and vegetables.
