This year the Michael Browning 5K Run/Walk to Remember has been added to the Railroad Days schedule for Saturday, July 9, 2016. Register in advance at www.racetime.info, or the day of the event at 7:00 a.m. at the ARC Center in Reed-Keppler Park, where the race starts and ends.
The race, which begins at 8:00 a.m., is sponsored by the West Chicago Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 85 and the West Chicago Park District to remember fallen police officer Michael Browning who was killed in the line of duty in 1992.
All proceeds benefit the Michael Browning Memorial Scholarship Fund to assist students pursuing a career in law enforcement or criminal justice. Register online at www.racetime.info.
In conjunction with this event, Mayor Pineda and Healthy West Chicago have invited kids to walk with him to get ready for Move with the Mayor – Make Every Step Count challenge in September. Healthy West Chicago has organized the We-Go STRIDE with PRIDE, and is giving away 50 FREE pool passes to Turtle Splash Water Park to the first 50 kids who sign up to walk in the Michael Browning Run/Walk with Mayor Pineda. This has been made possible by the generous support of Omar Espinosa at Republic Bank.
There is no charge to come and walk with Mayor Pineda, however parents need to sign up their children as soon as possible. Because of the limited number of pool passes, each family who registers will be able to receive up to 3 passes on a first come first served basis. To reserve the free passes, parents should email Reggie Bass at Reginald.firstname.lastname@example.org. When emailing, please include the names of the family member who will be walking. There will be a sign-in sheet at the Healthy West Chicago registration table at the ARC Center that morning.
