July 12, 2018
This newsletter is to inform you that the 2018 Sidewalk, Curb, and Gutter Maintenance Program is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of Monday, July 16, 2018. Construction is scheduled to be completed by August 10, 2018.
The proposed work includes the removal and replacement of deficient sidewalk at various locations throughout the City as well as some roadway curb and gutter repair. The work being done will not address all sidewalk deficiencies in your neighborhood nor deficiencies with the curb and gutter; instead, replacements will concentrate on the worst sidewalk trip hazards centered around public facilities (i.e., schools, day care centers, churches, government buildings, etc.) as budgeted dollars allow.
The locations for sidewalk replacement will be marked by City staff approximately one (1) week prior to the contractor’s start date. If your sidewalk is marked for replacement and you have any privately owns items within the City Right-of-Way (ROW), including but not limited to, landscape items, buried dog fences, sprinkler systems, etc., please remove and/or clearly identify these items so the contractor is aware of their presence. The City’s ROW typically extends from the center of the roadway to one (1) foot beyond the edge of City sidewalk, (one (1) foot past the sidewalk as you face a residential house). Please note that neither the City nor the contractor is responsible for any damage done to privately owned items located within the City ROW.
Please note that some sidewalk replacement may be located across residential driveways. In this case, driveway access will be restricted during removal operations and for approximately 5 (five) days from the time the concrete is poured while the concrete dries and cures. Please notify the City’s police department via 911 or submit an on-line request at http://westchicago.org/overnight-parking/ if overnight street parking is required at your residence during construction.
Construction activities for this project are scheduled between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM Monday through Friday and between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM on Saturday. After sidewalk replacement, barriers will be placed to deter residents from utilizing the sidewalk. The City respectively requests that if anyone witnesses the new sidewalk being defaced, please notify the City at (630) 293-2255 or call the City’s Police Department via 911 to report the incident.
As the work progresses, the City will update you on the project’s status. Please visit www.westchicago.org periodically for the latest construction news update. If you should have any questions regarding the 2018 Sidewalk, Curb, and Gutter Maintenance Program, please contact:
