How Do I?

Start Utility Service? Expand

You can stop by City Hall (475 Main Street) or call (630) 293-2200 during normal business hours. We will need the following information: your full legal name, the service address, the billing address, date you take possession of the property, day and evening phone numbers, whether you own, lease or rent, and whether the use of the property will be for residential or commercial use.

Contest a Parking Ticket? Expand

You may request a court hearing concerning the ticket. This request must be made at City Hall or by calling (630) 293-2200. Fines not paid by the due date are doubled.

Find out about Metra Parking? Expand

There are three lots available for commuter parking that are easily accessible to commuters. Both the Permit Parking Lot and two Daily Parking Lots are located at 508 Main Street and 542 Main Street Main Street in downtown West Chicago.

Metra Home Page  •   Metra Station Map and Schedule – pdf – 953KB

Permit Parking
The charge for permit parking is $90 per quarter.

The permit must be displayed from the inside rearview mirror of the vehicle so that it may be visible from the front of the vehicle.

There is a wait list.  To add your name, please call (630) 293-2200 or click here to send an e-mail. Please include your full name, address, and phone number.

Daily Parking
The cost of daily parking is $1.75 for a 24-hour period. When parking in the daily lot, the number of parking spaces to be occupied should be noted in order to make payment at the pay-by-space machines located at the south end of both daily lot locations. At the completion of the payment transaction, a receipt will be provided. Deposit only the correct amount into the pay-by space machines, as no change is provided and no refund for overpayment will be administered. Payment for daily parking can also be made by credit card. The payment machines accept all major credit cards.

Multiple Day Parking
If you plan on parking at the West Chicago Metra Station for more than one day, you may pay for up to a maximum of 72 hours in advance. Parking spaces numbered 145-165 (see map for multiple day parking spaces) are designated for multiple day parking and the following charges apply: $3 for two days (48 hours), $4.50 for three days (72 hours – maximum of three consecutive days allowed).

Handicap Parking
Handicap parking is located in the Permit Lot, near the train depot.

Free Parking
There is no charge to park at Permit or Daily Commuter Lot locations on Saturday and Sunday, beginning at 12:00 a.m. Saturday through 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

Free parking is also available on New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Drop off my utility bill payment during non-business hours? Expand

The City has a utility payment drop box for CITY UTILITY BILLS. If your payment is on time, you can drop it in the box located in the City Hall parking lot, 475 Main Street. Put your check or money order, and payment stub in the envelope provided so they do not get separated.

Start pickup of garbage and recycling materials? Expand

The City is contracted with Groot Industries ~ www.groot.com. Please call Groot directly at (877) 775-1200. You will be billed quarterly by Groot for the size of the tote you request.

A drop box is available in the City Hall parking lot for check or money order payments to Groot. A senior rate is available for heads of households 65 years or older.

Any trash that you are unable to fit into the tote can be placed into an additional 34 gallon can (maximum), but a refuse sticker needs to be affixed. Refuse stickers are available for sale at City Hall, area gasoline stations and grocery stores. If you have any unusual items for pickup, or your pickup was missed, contact Groot.

Groot Industries will also drop off a recycling bin at your home. Recycling materials are collected curbside on your primary day of service. No sticker is required. For a list of recycling material, visit www.groot.com.
