2019 Community Profile

MISSION

To promote West Chicago beautification programs and personal and community involvement through the use of flowers, plants, trees, and other environmental and lifestyle enhancements, like public art installations and community health initiatives.

VISION

To enhance West Chicago's reputation as welcoming and vibrant place to live, work, and play - benefiting from colorful plants and trees; enjoying clean environments; celebrating heritage, and planting pride through volunteerism.

MOTIVATING GOALS

To maximize our community's ongoing involvement and to be awarded with the designation of an official America in Bloom City.

America in Bloom committee members are still needed. Many volunteer opportunities are available.

America in Bloom is a national non-profit organization which serves as a catalyst for building community pride, participation, and beautification. The City of West Chicago and the West Chicago Park District have spearheaded an effort and formed an America in Bloom Committee of community partners to work together to improve and promote West Chicago through this program.

Many residents, businesses and organizations have enthusiastically joined the Committee and have worked hard on projects to enhance the community in the seven categories that were judged by representatives of the America in Bloom organization for the past two years, which are Flower Displays, Landscaped Areas, Heritage Preservation, Urban Forestry, Environmental Efforts, Community Vitality and Overall Impression.

"I am so proud of our City and know you are too. One of the big takeaways of the community visioning process which resulted in the West Chicago Strategic Plan was the strong sentiment that it’s time we let others outside the City know about our success. For this reason, the City is pursuing national recognition through America in Bloom.  Share your love of gardening and community by joining the effort to become the next America in Bloom City.  Let’s do this together, West Chicago." ~Mayor Ruben Pineda
