2008 – Community pride is alive and well in West Chicago! Just as the emerging colors of spring transform a bare, brown landscape into a natural work of art, so are community-wide beautification efforts transforming the City of West Chicago.
Through green initiatives, public art and cityscape enhancements West Chicago’s residents, businesses and governments are working together to raise the quality of life for all who call West Chicago home.
This year, the West Chicago Park District will be upgrading the landscape design along Main Street to include native perennials which will provide greater opportunities for incorporating staggered height, interesting texture and lasting beauty.
Additionally, the City has purchased 24 new Community banners which will be supplemented by 12 one of a kind art banners resulting from a Cultural Arts Commission public art project. The floral themed banners, which are the creation of local artists with a connection to the community, will be alternated with cascading mounds of glorious flowers in hanging baskets donated by 47 area businesses and will beautify Main Street from W. Washington to Route 59.
