She is known to her family as “The Spider-Mom”.
People are often surprised when she tells them she always carries a spool of wire and a crochet hook in a small bag for when she is feeling inspired.
Marita Valdizan is a mother and an artist, and her exhibit Expressions – 3 years of Inspiration is coming to Gallery 200, located at 103 West Washington Street for the month of August. A free Opening Reception will be held on Friday, August 4, 2017 and the public is invited to attend and enjoy conversation with Valdizan who admits an affinity to talking about the process involved in her creations.
The maximum moment of my creation occurs in the passivity of the night, often beginning when my little ones are asleep. It is in the quiet of the night that I can feel a powerful energy emerging in the creation of my work. I am glad to be able to share my grand passion with you through this exhibit. This is the result of three years of inspiration, creative work, ups and downs and even some awards along the way.” Marita Valdizan
The exhibit consists of mixed media, wearable art and jewelry. She finds mixed media to be a wonderful technique that allows her to choose different materials. “It helps me with the dimensionality of my art work and I like because it is fun!” she said. “I enjoy create wearable art because I create them; unique fun and interactive! I enjoy to seeing the people when they having fun wear them and looking great!”
