The hectic pace of work, school, and family life can sometimes leave little time for the creative life. Recently, a small group of West Chicagoans frustrated that their busy schedules never seemed to let them set aside time to be creative, came up with the idea of Bring Your Own (BYO) Creativity, a new group which meets at the downtown art coop, Gallery 200, located at 103 West Washington Street .
Working with Gallery 200 administrators, they organized a regular time to welcome others to work on their projects and socialize with other locals also craving expression through art. No matter the skill level or project, the second Saturday of each month from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. is designated BYO Creativity.
BYO Creativity is a pop-in event, which means those interested may come in for however long they like during the designated hours, bringing with them any materials needed for their project, whether that be painting, drawing, knitting or crocheting, scrapbooking, etc.
There is no fee and no need to register. No formal instruction is provided, however, tips and techniques may be shared among group members in the collaborative environment. A Facebook group has been set up with updates and more information.
The remaining 2021 BYO Creativity sessions are on Saturday October 9, November 13, and December 11, 2021, from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Masks are required.
