How many ways can you decorate a pie pumpkin? Judging from the photo entries received in the first-ever Pumpkin Decorating Contest sponsored by the City of West Chicago and the West Chicago Public Library, the sky was the limit.
More than 130 photos of the most amazingly creative pumpkins poured in and are ready for online judging by the community. They range from scary to elegant, some depicting bats, unicorns, monsters and more. Some pumpkins were decorated enjoying a spa day, home sick with a bad case of stripes, or reading their favorite book. In all, the virtual event shined a spotlight on the creativity of West Chicago kids of all ages.
The event was announced earlier this fall and residents had the opportunity to register for pumpkins and treat bags, which were picked up at a special drive-thru event at the Library. Residents that were not able to make it to the event were encouraged to go out and purchase a pie pumpkin to decorate at home. The age categories for the contest are 7 and under,
8-12, 13-17 and family/adult.
The online voting deadline is Sunday, November 1, 2020 and there will be one winner in each age category who will receive a $25 gift card to a local West Chicago business.
The City and Library wish to thank all the participants and those who vote. Follow along on the West Chicago Halloween Festivities Facebook page for the winner announcements and other updates.
