Call for Art
The West Chicago Cultural Arts Commission is delighted to announce that its annual multi-media art show, Artéculture, will be held at a new local business in downtown West Chicago this year. Kindred Coffee Roasters, at 148 West Washington Street, welcomed the idea of having local and regional art displayed at its recently remodeled space in its hip/historic building in the heart of the community.
Artéculture is scheduled for May 19, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. during the City’s annual Blooming Fest, with a preview evening on May 18, 2018 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Kindred Coffee Roasters is owned by West Chicago residents Sarah and Patrick Harms and Sarah’s brother Ryan Hammer. Their dream of opening a business in their hometown was recently documented in a short video produced by Ryan for the City’s new economic development website.
The coffee shop is fast becoming a regular daily stop for a loyal local customer base. “Connecting local and area art and artists to the venue was a natural for Commission members”, said Rosemary Mackey, City of West Chicago Cultural Arts Commission Staff Liaison. “Making social connections via art in an engaging gathering space like Kindred will add yet another dimension to Artéculture.”
Artists are still invited to participate and may register at https://form.jotform.com/80805854118156. This is a great opportunity for them to show their work to the large audience expected during Blooming Fest, a garden festival which will be taking place simultaneously on adjacent Main Street. Advance registration is recommended to allow organizers to plan setup of the space and placement of the art for a smooth installation process. It will also assist the Commission in creating exhibit cards for each piece of art in advance of the show.
Those wishing to participate should drop artwork, a maximum of two pieces per artist, at Gallery 200, 103 West Washington Street on Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. and pick up artwork following the event on Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. If necessary, additional drop off and pick up arrangements may be made by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org.
