West Chicago business to receive Brilliance in Business Award from the City
After almost 30 years in business, Buck Services, Inc. of West Chicago, Illinois, a family-owned and -operated full service cleaning and maintenance business, has won the prestigious Brilliance in Business Award from the City of West Chicago for a second time. Originally honored in 2010 with an Economic Development Award for the purchase of a 17,000 square foot facility which secured its future in West Chicago, Buck Services, Inc. is being recognized in 2017 for Outstanding Achievement in Health, Safety and Environment.
Three decades ago, Buchholz brothers John, Rob, Bill and Joe, then students at St. Francis High School in Wheaton, took the job of cleaning the building after school to help defray the cost of tuition. Little did they know at that time they would form a company and develop a niche in Catholic schools and churches throughout the Joliet, Rockford and Chicago dioceses.
Each of the brothers went on to college and careers before deciding to return to a business they loved – creating and maintaining clean, comfortable and community oriented environments. Now they service a list of Chicagoland clientele that includes various industries (commercial, healthcare, government, retail, banks and more) from McHenry County to the Northwest suburbs. They are most proud of the fact that they continue to serve St. Michael’s in Wheaton as this is the grade school each of them attended as well as the first account they secured under Buck Services, Inc.
Invaluable lessons learned through the first-hand experience with all aspects of the business each brother gained in the early years, allowed them to develop “A Proven Concept in Cleaning and Maintenance” which provides a roadmap for employees and consistent, reliable service for their clients.
Today, Buck Services, Inc. employs a workforce of 225, which it considers as its extended family and strives to treat each individual with dignity, trust and respect. As a result of workplace satisfaction, many of their staff have been with the company for the long term. As they are assigned to work with the same clients through the years, solid working relationships and complete client satisfaction is ensured.
A member of the next generation of the Buchholz family joined the team in 2015. Bill Buchholz III contributes an educational background and workplace experience in Human Resources, particularly workplace safety, to the company culture. The task of creating a dedicated program by recruiting company managers and field representatives for a formal safety committee which emphasizes safety from the top down through safety training videos, handouts and the addition of a dedicated Safety Day, has rewarded Buck Services, Inc. with the MRMH Award from the Assurance Company. The award recognizes the quantifiable results in Minimizing workplace Risk and Maximizing the Health and well-being of team members.
