Due to the financial strain of the COVID-19 pandemic, the many pressures facing West Chicago families who try to make ends meet, continues to grow. So too does the generosity of a caring, responsive community.
The Wheaton Bible Church’s Give Help/Get Help portal posted the need for household products, especially diapers and baby wipes. Brent Lautenbach and Maria Lenzi of Jacobs, the company which manages operations at the City’s wastewater treatment facility, were more than happy to jump in as a local corporation and support the community.
The order, placed at the local Target store, brought out two young people who loaded Lenzi’s vehicle curbside. Lenzi could tell the workers were puzzled by the size of the order for one person. She told them that the order was for a food pantry and not for herself. They responded favorably, expressing gratitude that we are all helping each other out in this time of need. A great lesson for all of us.
