Street Maintenance Scheduled for August 9 in Certain Areas

August 8, 2023 By City of West Chicago

The City of West Chicago’s contractor, Corrective Asphalt Materials, LLC (CAM, LLC), will be performing asphalt rejuvenating maintenance on the following City’s streets on Wednesday, August 9, weather depending.

  • Commerce Drive, Hahndorf Street, Hill Court, Amber Court, Lillian Lane;
  • Ingalton Avenue from Neltnor Boulevard to Hahndorf Street;
  • Prince Crossing from North Avenue to Washington Street;
  • Grove Avenue from Williams Road to Neltnor Boulevard; and
  • potentially, Stockberry Lane from Overbeck Lane to Lehman Drive.

Residents along these streets have been notified of the estimated maintenance times in their areas and there will be no on-street parking during these times.

If you have a lawn sprinkling system that sprays or drains onto the street pavement you should turn it off for the day in which work will be performed on your street and one day following the treatment.

Please see below for more details regarding this necessary maintenance.

  • Why is this product being applied to my road?
    CAM, LLC will be applying Reclamite Maltene Based Rejuvenating Agent to your roads. Reclamite is a product designed to extend the life of pavement by sealing the pavement from the elements. This penetrating sealer is the most widely used pavement rejuvenator in the market for over 50 years, and will assist in minimizing the need for more costly and disruptive methods of street repair.
  • How long does the process take?
    Once our crew begins on your street, the process will usually only take one to two hours. Please obey all signs and crew direction. Once the road has been treated with limestone screenings, the road will be fully opened to traffic.
  • When can I drive on the road?
    You can exit your driveway and drive through the work area, but please go slow and stay on the area treated with limestone/sand screenings. Please be advised that driving onto a driveway before the contractor is finished applying the limestone/sand screenings may cause vehicle tires to track product onto driveways and sidewalks. These markings are not permanent, and will naturally fade within a few weeks.
  • When will the road be cleaned up?
    After the product is applied, an application of limestone screenings will be applied to the road. This is not permanent. The screenings will be swept up in a day or two after the product is applied.

These agents are environmentally safe and extend the pavement’s life. If caution and reduced speeds are taken when driving on recently treated roadways, the transfer of material from the roadway to your vehicle is unlikely. If you do have product that has transferred to your vehicle, it is non corrosive and will not damage your vehicle. A bug and tar remover (available at any local auto parts store) will safely remove any material on your vehicle. Please work with us through any inconveniences during the application process.

Community Partners Hosting Food Drive through September

August 7, 2023 By City of West Chicago

WeGoWarhol_Header-02

The City of West Chicago, Healthy West Chicago, the West Chicago Public Library District, and the West Chicago Park District have teamed up to launch the WeGo Warhol Community Food Drive, aimed at collecting food items for local food pantries through the month of September. This effort coincides with the DuPage County "Warhol" art exhibit at the McAninch Arts Center, and both the art exhibit and the food drive will conclude on Sunday, September 10.

In partnership with the People’s Resource Center, these organizations are calling upon local residents, businesses, and organizations to support fellow community members facing food insecurity caused by rising food costs.

Organizations and community members can contribute to this worthy cause by donating non-perishable food items at various locations across West Chicago, including:

  • West Chicago Park District’s ARC Center at 201 W. National Street
  • West Chicago Public Library at 118 W. Washington Street
  • West Chicago City Hall at 475 Main Street

Examples of donations include canned goods, pasta, rice, canned proteins (such as tuna and chicken), peanut butter, and cereal. For other ideas and examples, please visit the People’s Resource Center’s website to view the most needed items at local pantries.

Please consider making a positive impact on the West Chicago community by participating in the WeGo Warhol Community Food Drive and helping those in need gain access to essential food supplies.

For questions or more information, please email communications@westchicago.org.

If you are in need of food pantry services, please visit the People’s Resource Center’s website to learn how you can begin receiving food from local pantries.

About the West Chicago Art Banner Exhibit

The City of West Chicago’s art banner exhibit is a unique event that annually draws attention from artists from all across DuPage County and beyond. Artwork inspired by the yearly theme is displayed on large banners and then installed on light poles throughout downtown as part of this special exhibit.

After artwork submissions are received, they are judged with a select number being chosen to be entered in the WeGo Art Banner Exhibit. The selected artworks are then reproduced on large-scale streetlight pole banners that are then put on display throughout the City's downtown.

Throughout the exhibit, the public is invited to participate in voting for their favorite artwork. The artwork with the most votes, is recognized as the "People's Choice Award" winner for that year's exhibit.

DuPage County Seeking Input on New Strategic Plan

July 27, 2023 By City of West Chicago

DuPage County is seeking resident input as it creates a new strategic plan to guide the County through 2029.

In March, the County Board started the process of creating the new strategic plan, which will serve as a blueprint for the next five years, shaping the County’s mission, vision, and financial planning.

The County is working with BerryDunn, a national consultant with experience in government strategic planning, to develop the new plan. BerryDunn created a website for the public to learn more about the strategic planning process, fill out a survey identifying their priorities, and provide input on the plan. The website can be found at https://berrydunn.mysocialpinpoint.com/dupagecountyil.

The information collected through the website will be used to create a long-term vision, strategic priorities, goals and objectives and performance metrics to define the County’s direction and measure progress. The site will remain open for a few months to allow for resident feedback. The County anticipates launching the new strategic plan in January 2024.

View the original press release on the DuPage County website.
