West Chicago, Illinois: August 23, 2017 – A special presentation, which included the reading of a Proclamation and presentation of a Key to the City, was held during the City Council meeting of Monday, August 21, 2017 to honor the recent visit of His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj, the spiritual leader of BAPS, a socio-spiritual Hindu organization.
Earlier this summer, West Chicago Mayor Ruben Pineda joined other mayors and elected officials from across the state of Illinois to bestow greetings to His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj at the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir along Route 59 in Bartlett. Since its opening in August of 2004, the Mandir has served as an important representation of the vast spiritual, educational and social contributions that BAPS culture makes all over the world.
The visit from the spiritual leader was one of great significance for members of Hindu and South Asian communities in West Chicago and throughout Illinois, and one which brought renewed inspiration, devotion and spiritual wisdom through his personal example. It also offered a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Hinduism and Indian culture.
“Meeting His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj was a very honored moment for me. There was an aura of great calm and peace in his presence. It was a transcendent experience.”
Representatives of the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir were in attendance at the Council meeting to receive the recognition and Key to the City.
