Message from Mayor Pineda: May 15, 2020 – Keeping it Light

May 15, 2020 By City of West Chicago

“Always laugh when you can. It is cheap medicine.” – Lord Byron

Dear fellow community members,

top picture is a dog looking out a front door. Bottom picture is a dog laying in a blanket

We’ve all read about the enormous health benefits of humor and laughter. A great article in HelpGuide.org lists the many physical, emotional, and social benefits of laughter. It boosts the immune system, relieves stress and eases anxiety and tension.

In the spirit of the quote above, I have decided to end another week of sheltering in place on a lighter note. While staying home during the COVID-19 pandemic has not been a painless adjustment, I have discovered some interesting things that I’d like to share with you about myself, my significant other, and my furry children.

I hope my top ten list makes you laugh.

  1. If you watch grass or hair long enough, you can actually see it grow.
  2. Your pets do get tired of you.
  3. Canned Spam is great!
  4. Laundry is consisting mostly of pajamas.
  5. Our yard never looked so good.
  6. My Wife gets more beautiful every day!
  7. Canned Spam is great (again)!
  8. You can wear slippers all day every day for a long time.
  9. West Chicago residents are amazing and patient.
  10. Staying home does save lives!

Take some time this weekend to exercise your sense of humor. Catch up on some episodes of Seinfeld, share some corny jokes with the family, or channel your silly side. As someone once said, “he who laughs, lasts.“

Stay well, stay safe, and stay happy,

Ruben Pineda
Mayor of West Chicago

Siempre ríete cuando puedas. Es medicina barata. –Lord Byron

Ruben Pineda
Alcalde de West Chicago
