Employment Opportunity: Facilities Management & Fleet Maintenance Superintendent

The City of West Chicago is a rapidly growing community located in the western suburbs of Chicago seeking a Public Works Facilities Management and Fleet Maintenance Superintendent.

The superintendent under the direction of the Director of Public Works will be responsible for directing, managing, supervising and coordinating the activities and operations of the Facilities Management and Fleet Maintenance Division.  The Facilities Management and Fleet Maintenance Division is responsible for maintenance of all City owned/operated facilities as well as the entire City fleet.

The position is responsible for supervising work involving the development and implementa­tion of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs within the Facilities Management and Fleet Maintenance Division including but not limited to capital improvements projects related to City owned/operated facilities; Inspect building facilities to identify building maintenance needs; negotiate and manage contracts; Supervise contractors and coordinate work activities with other City Departments; Inspect the work completed by contractors to ensure that specifications are met and all work complies with Federal, State and local standards; Maintain and repair City facilities; Oversee the purchasing of vehicles and equipment; Oversee the vehicle and equipment maintenance including parts and materials; Manage parts inventory; Assist with City-wide snow removal operations, etc. Coordinate with other divisions within Public Works, departments in the City, other governmental entities, residents and businesses. Direct supervision of personnel within the Facilities Management and Fleet Maintenance Division.  Assist the Director with administrative functions related to the Division.

Position requires five years of increasingly responsible experience in the field of Public Works or related to the Facilities Management and Fleet Maintenance including two years of supervisory responsibility. A bachelor’s degree in management, public administration, or closely related field preferred but not required. Equivalent training in electricity, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, automotive/equipment maintenance, construction and/or a related field required. Possession of, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire a valid Illinois Class B CDL driver’s license with tanker endorsement and without an airbrake restriction.
