The purpose of this newsletter is to inform you that the next phase of construction activities for the City of West Chicago’s Alta Vista Gardens Roadway Rehabilitation Project (Project) will soon begin. Based upon a schedule provided by the contractor (A-Lamp Concrete Contractors, Inc.) construction is scheduled to begin Wednesday, April 1, 2015, and is anticipated to be completed by June 30, 2015, weather depending.
This next phase of construction will focus on Brown Street, between Town Road and Lyman Street, and Parkside Avenue, Lincoln Avenue, Kenwood Avenue, and Lyman Street, between Forest Avenue and Brown Street. The Project’s construction activities include pavement milling, patching, and resurfacing, storm sewer structure improvement, concrete curb and gutter replacement with depressed driveway access, and sidewalk replacement at intersections for compliance with the Americans with Disability Act. In addition, new sidewalk will be installed along the east side of Lyman Street and on the north of Brown Street, adjacent to Pioneer School.
The Project’s local road improvement is funded by both the City of West Chicago and through a Community Development Block Grant from DuPage County, by and through its Community Development Commission.
Driveway access may be periodically restricted during construction. Please note all construction activities are scheduled between 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, and 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturday. Traffic will be restricted during construction hours, but all streets will be open to traffic at the end of each business day.
Please note that once the curb and gutter is removed for replacement, the United States Postal Service may choose to stop mail service to your mail box. Every reasonable effort will be made to accommodate mail delivery, but if service is stopped, mail will be held and readily available for pick up at the post office located at 1130 W. Washington St. If mail service is stopped, it will only be temporary (approximately a few weeks) until the new curb and gutter is installed.
Traffic control signs will be posted prior to and during construction notifying residents of the proposed construction and/or detour routes.
As the work progresses, the City will update you on the project’s status. Please visit www.westchicago.org periodically for the latest construction news update. If you should have any questions regarding the Alta Vista Gardens Roadway Rehabilitation Project, please contact:
