West Chicago Garden Club Presentation
March 31, 2016 6:45 p.m.
Faith Community Church
910 Main Street

With its goal being to “grow gardeners”, the West Chicago Garden Club is offering an exceptional presentation by one of its own member gardeners, Ed Max, on Thursday, March 31, 2016. The topic is Organic Vegetable Gardening.
An avid organic gardener and heirloom tomato enthusiast, Ed will talk about the best varieties and teach participants how to collect, save and grow the seeds of heirloom tomatoes. He is a landscape designer and certified naturalist and arborist by profession, and a great asset to the West Chicago Garden Club. Ed freely shares his expertise, helping out with the Club’s annual plant sale by donating heirloom tomato plants, and generally being a great source of information to other Club members.
His friendly, informal presentation style invites audience participation and according to Billie Childress, Garden Club Program Coordinator, will definitely capture interest and inspire confidence for growing organic vegetables. As she stated, “…out of the 75 million households that garden, 44% will grow things they can eat. This trend has spawned the popular phrases ‘garden to table’ or ‘locally grown'”, she said. “Growing food at home is becoming part of an everyday lifestyle”.
The West Chicago Garden Club is a welcoming group that strives to continually add to its membership. Guests are always welcome. Presentations such as this one bring like-minded individuals together monthly, typically the fourth Thursday of each month (with few exceptions like the March meeting, which falls on the fifth Thursday) at 6:45 p.m. Meetings are held at Faith Community Church, located at 910 Main Street. “More plants in backyards are vital to wildlife corridors. And the beauty and satisfaction plants add to our lives is immeasurable. Our goal is to grow gardeners”, Childress affirmed.
