West Chicago is home to 27,600 residents and an employment center, located in the western suburbs of Chicago. The community has a unique mix of mature and new housing stock and commercial properties, as well as a strong and growing industrial base.
The position reports to the Community Development Director and must be knowledgeable of and able to read, interpret and apply various building codes. Conducts some building plan reviews and inspections, and determines permit fees. Stays up-to-date on changes to building and electrical codes and assists in making revisions needed to City codes. Manages contract for third-party building inspection and code enforcement services.

Requirements:
Equivalent to Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in construction management, architecture, construction technology, or a related field. Seven years of increasingly responsible experience in the design, construction or inspection of public, commercial, industrial and residential buildings, some supervisory responsibility is preferred. High level of political acumen required due to frequent interactions with the public, other Departments and Districts, and occasionally elected officials. Salary: $87,160 – $122,024.
