Mother Nature did her part in holding off rain on Saturday, May 12, 2018 for a Downtown Planting Party spearheaded by three West Chicago Service Clubs; Lions, Rotary and Kiwanis.
Over 25 volunteers, from these organizations and others, plus community residents and even some non-community residents from the DoGood DuPage campaign, came out to lend a hand. Work was completed within two hours and the group returned to the Fox Community Center to enjoy pizza and a great sense of accomplishment.
The City wishes to thank everyone who participated. A slideshow documenting volunteer efforts has been created and may be found on the City’s YouTube account.
The Downtown Planting Party supports the City and Park District’s nomination of West Chicago in the America in Bloom program. America in Bloom is a national non-profit organization dedicated to promoting nationwide beautification programs and personal and community involvement through the use of flowers, plants, trees, and other environmental and lifestyle enhancements, like public art installations and community health initiatives.
“America in Bloom judges arrive on July 25th for a two-day tour of our City”, said Rosemary Mackey, City co-chair of the America in Bloom committee. “Thanks to the efforts of our volunteers, we will be ready.”
More public beautification projects, including another installation of public art and the landscaping of City gateway signs, are being planned.
