Winfield Township is seeking individuals interested in serving on the newly established Mental Health Board. The Board will consist of seven members appointed by Township Supervisor with the advice and consent of the Township Trustees.
Eligibility Criteria
- Members must be residents of Winfield Township.
- The Board will include citizens, consumers, and representatives from community groups focused on mental health, developmental disabilities, substance use/addictions, as well as representatives from organizations such as local health departments, medical societies, schools, and hospital boards.
- One member must be a Board member of Winfield Township.
- Board members cannot be employees of the Illinois Department of Human Services or individuals receiving compensation from any organization contracting with the Board, except for the Township Board Liaison.
Term of Office
Board members will serve a four-year term, with the initial members having staggered terms: two members for two years, two for three years, and three for four years, all starting from the first day of the year of appointment.
Purpose of the Board
The Winfield Township Mental Health Board will act as the local mental health authority, focused on supporting individuals in enhancing, maintaining, and restoring mental health. The Board will have the authority to construct, repair, operate, and maintain mental health facilities and services, as well as contract with service providers for residents dealing with mental health challenges.
The Board's mission includes promoting mental health, strengthening positive environmental factors, and preventing factors that may inhibit mental well-being. This will be achieved through leadership, resource development, and community partnerships.
