On Saturday July 11, 2015 officers from the West Chicago Police Department were dispatched to the 1200 block of Bishop Street for a domestic related incident. When the officers arrived at the house they spoke to all the residents including a male juvenile, who was located in the garage.
While in the garage the officers noticed over 30 pieces of high-end, commercial grade, landscaping equipment which included, chainsaws, blowers, edgers and concrete saws. Officers also observed 15 cannabis plants growing in the male juvenile’s bedroom. Due to an increase in recent burglaries, he was brought to the West Chicago Police Department. Investigators interviewed the juvenile, who admitted he had been breaking into garages, vehicles and trailers over the past couple of months. The juvenile further explained after stealing the equipment he would try to sell it.
The juvenile was arrested on four counts of Burglary, which is a Class 2 Felony for each count and Possession of Cannabis, a Class 4 Felony. The juvenile was transported to the Kane County Youth Home to await his pending court date.
On Monday July 13, 2015, officers from the West Chicago Police Department made contact with the victims who had reported burglaries over the past several months. Those victims came to the Police Department and were able to identify their stolen property, which was then returned to them. The property recovered by the Police Department was valued over $10,000.
