Illinois Route 59 and Meade Road
On Sunday, January 7, 2018 at approximately 4:00 pm, the West Chicago Police Department and West Chicago Fire Protection District responded to the area of Illinois Route 59 and Meade Road on the report of a traffic crash with injuries.
Responding personnel located a three-car traffic crash near that intersection. The 71 year-old female driver of one vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 78 year-old passenger was transported to Central DuPage Hospital with serious injuries. The drivers and sole occupants of the other two vehicles, a 39 year-old female and a 72 year-old female, were also transported to Central DuPage Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Initial investigation and witness accounts indicate that a Chevrolet pick-up was traveling southbound Illinois Route 59. For reasons still under investigation, the pick-up crossed over the center divider where it collided with two northbound vehicles; a Subaru and a Honda.
At this point, it has not been determined if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this crash. An autopsy was scheduled on the driver of the pick-up for Monday, January 8, 2018. Investigators will also consider roadway conditions and other factors during the investigation.
Illinois Route 59 was closed from Smith Road to North Avenue for approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes. It was reopened to traffic at approximately 7:45 pm.
The West Chicago Police Department was assisted in this investigation by members of DUCART, (the DuPage County Accident Reconstruction Team), West Chicago ESDA, the DuPage Sheriff’s Department and the Bartlett Police.
