The West Chicago Police Department and West Chicago Fire Protection District units were dispatched at 9:37 a.m. to a house at the intersection of Colford and Oakwood Avenues in West Chicago on a report of a car-versus-house traffic accident.
Upon arrival, responding personnel discovered a Nissan 4-door sedan upside down and partially in the detached garage at that location. Fire District personnel extricated the driver who was the sole occupant in the car.
The adult male driver of the Nissan was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in unknown condition. No people were at the house at the time of the accident and no other injuries have been reported.
The initial investigation indicates that the Nissan was traveling southbound on Oakwood Avenue when it drove onto the property, struck the side of the house and then continued into and through the garage, coming to rest on its roof.
This remains an active incident. The West Chicago Police Department is being assisted by members of the DuPage County Accident Reconstruction Team (DuCART). There has been no determination regarding the vehicle’s speed or other violations of the Illinois Vehicle Code at this point. Those determinations will be a part of the investigation and its final report once completed.
A building inspector from the City of West Chicago’s Community Development Department will make a determination as to the habitability of the house.
