This year, in an effort to bring much needed appreciation to the men and women of law enforcement, the Illinois Auxiliary of Wives Behind the Badge, Inc. is sponsoring Paint Illinois Blue across the entire state of Illinois on Saturday, September 19, 2015 to coincide with National Thank a Police Officer Day.
Communities are encouraged to show pride and appreciation for their local Police Department by displaying something blue outside homes, offices, businesses, etc. Suggested items include ribbons or bows worn on clothing or tied around trees, supportive messages on business message boards, creative outdoor displays at homes or businesses, or simply saying “thank you” to a member of law enforcement. The Auxiliary is interested in receiving photographs from participating community members to share with others across the state. These should be submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org.
According to Illinois Auxiliary of Wives Behind the Badge, Inc., “So far in 2015, 83 law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty. Law enforcement officers and their families deal with incredible stressors, and there is no end in sight. Illinois Wives Behind the Badge, Inc. wishes to serve as a positive voice for law enforcement in communities across the nation with events like Paint Illinois Blue.”
The Illinois Auxiliary of Wives Behind the Badge, Inc. is a registered not-for-profit in Illinois and was established to support law enforcement officers and their families.
