On Monday, July 27, 2015, West Chicago police officers initiated an investigation into allegations that a 39-year-old male had been sexually assaulting two minors.
Officers, working in conjunction with investigators from the DuPage County Children’s Center, followed up on allegations that Obdulio Lopez-Gomez, of the 800 block of Burr Oaks Drive, had sexually assaulted two minors. Investigators determined that Lopez-Gomez, who knew both of the victims and their family, had abused the children over a period of two years.
“The allegations are that the victims were the target of a true criminal predator. We worked collaboratively with the DuPage Children’s Center to take this offender off the streets”, said West Chicago Police Chief Michael Uplegger.
On July 29, Lopez- Gomez was charged with four counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child. Each count is a class X felony. Due to the age of the victims, if convicted each count carries a minimum period of six years, and a maximum period of sixty years, in the Illinois Department of Corrections. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail to await a bond hearing.
The West Chicago Police Department wishes to thank the DuPage County Children’s Center for its assistance in this investigation. For further information, please contact Commander Eric Shipman at (630) 293-2222 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
