The West Chicago Police Department wants to remind residents if you have fireworks set aside for the Fourth of July, you could receive a ticket if you use them. West Chicago City Ordinance 11-102 prohibits any person to possess, offer for sale, expose for sale, use or explode any fireworks within the City unless permission has been granted by the City Council or its designee.
Banned Consumer Fireworks:
- Hand held fireworks
- Bottle rockets
- Firecrackers of any size or type
- Sky rockets
- Roman candles
- Buzz bombs
- Ground items other than those identified as approved consumer fireworks
- Pin wheels or any other twirling device whether on the ground or mounted above the ground
- Sky lanterns – the type of balloon which requires fire underneath to propel
