Mayor Ruben Pineda shared details about the City's recent achievements while identifying several positive items on the "bright horizon ahead" as part of his 2024 State of the City Address, held at the West Chicago City Hall on Monday, May 20th. As part of the Address, he discussed West Chicago's current economic health, completed and upcoming infrastructure projects, recent and future development initiatives, and other community highlights. Key points from the evening included:
- The City's equalized assessed valuation (EAV) has more than doubled since 1996, and has increased by $54 million in 2023.
- The City has completed over $8 million dollars in infrastructure projects in 2023, in addition to $1.5 million towards annual infrastructure programs.
- Fifteen of the city's current businesses expanded their operations, contributing over $10 million in investment. Additionally, The Jel Sert Company announced a $10 million expansion that will create 50 new full-time jobs.
- The City welcomed 72 new businesses that will eventually employ over 400 individuals.
- 95 acres of the DuPage Business Center are under contract for development, with an additional 34 acres receiving offers for development.
- The City is proceeding with several highly visible projects in 2024, including the rehabilitation of the Fremont Street Water Tower, the installation of a new traffic signal at IL-38 and Technology Boulevard, and the environmental remediation of the city-owned property along Washington Street.
As he concluded, Mayor Pineda stated, “[The City's] ongoing achievements stand as a testament to our journey from humble beginnings to the vibrant community we are today. Reflecting on the current landscape of our city while envisioning the bright horizon ahead, I am more excited than ever for the future of West Chicago and I am filled with immense pride to call this City my home."
