The 2025 summer tour season in the Kruse House Museum 527 Main St.,is open Saturday, May 3 through Saturday, Sept. 20. Hours are from noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays, except holiday weekends-Mother’s Day, May 11; Memorial Day, May 26; Father’s Day, June 15, Fourth of July, July 5; and Labor Day, Aug.30. It is open from 5 to 7 p.m. the second Thursday of each month. The charge for the tours is $3 for adults and free for passport holders. Persons can view the gardens, maintained by the West Chicago Garden Club, at no charge at any time.
West Chicago City Museum, 132 Main Street, and Kruse House Museum are participants in the “Passport to Adventure” program, which runs year round. The program is for all ages , who receive stamps at the participating locations, which includes more than 60 museums and nature centers in DuPage and Kane counties. Passports are available at both museums. City Museum hours are 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturdays

Ohems is the founder of Wild World Gardens, a caring and healing landscape design company focused on native plants, pollinator gardens, rain gardens, organic vegetable gardens, and therapeutic horticulture. He led the communications and marketing strategies for the Center for Humans & Nature’s publication platforms between 2016 and 2022. Prior to working for the Center, he led all editorial projects for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and he was a freelance writer for a number of publications.He received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Loyola University in Chicago and a Master of Science in journalism from University of Oregon in Eugene.

A reimagining of the beloved film from the nineties, “Sister Act” tells the story of Deloris Van Cartier who is a singer that has to go into hiding after she witnesses a murder. - Gallery 200, 103 W. Washington St., hosts a community event, Make Seed Paper, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2025. Seed paper is made from recycled paper or other biodegradable materials, with seeds embedded during the paper-making process. The paper can contain a variety of seeds, including wildflowers, herbs, and vegetables. When the paper is planted in soil, the seeds germinate and grow into plants, while the paper itself decomposes. Seed paper can be used for various applications, including invitations, cards, bookmarks, and even decorative wraps.

In 2024-2025, the West Chicago Park District, with the support of a grant from Trees Forever, will enhance three local parks, Cornerstone Lakes Park, Meadow Wood Park, and Dyer Riverwoods Park with the planting of 12 new tree species, including Autumn Blaze Maple, Burr Oak, and Hornbeam. Not only will this initiative increase tree diversity and improve ecosystem health, but it also will beautify public spaces.
- West Chicago Park District holds a Cinco de Mayo 2-mile Color Crawl at 6 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2025, at Kress Creek Farms Park, 30W150 Wilson Road. Along the route, participants are showered with vibrant color made from safe, food-grade, biodegradable cornstarch and by the time they cross the finish line are covered by a color palette of hues. Using eight “refuse” stickers, residents can dispose of an unlimited amount of acceptable items. Helpful hint,-attach your eight stickers to your garbage container, as your junk may be someone else’s treasure. - West Chicago City Museum started a new series, “Museum Monday.” The April 14, 2025, series highlighted part time staff. “As we wrap up our Museum Mondays Departments of a Museum series, it’s time to take a step back and appreciate the dedicated individuals who bring the West Chicago City Museum to life. With a team of just five part-time staff members, our museum operates as a finely tuned machine, ensuring every department runs smoothly.”

- West Chicago Police Department Targeted Response Unit Officer Blake Bertany is the recipient of the West Chicago G.O.A.T (Greatest Of All time). award which honors him as an employe who goes above and beyond, an amazing team player and works hard to make West Chicago a better place. His nominator said, “Officer Bertany makes a difference in the community by prioritizing impaired driving enforcement. In 2023, he made 72 DUI arrests, and he made 100 DUI arrests in 2024. So far this year, he’s surpassed 20 DUI arrests and continues to make the community safer by taking intoxicated motorists off the road.” He has a positive attitude at work and positive manner with his fellow officers. WEST CHICAGO FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT
- At approximately 12:57 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2025, the West Chicago Fire Protection District responded to an activated fire alarm in the 100 block of W. North Ave. Upon arrival the firefighters investigated the activation of the building's fire sprinkler system, determining the activation of the fire sprinkler system was in a first floor apartment.
Entering the apartment, they discovered a small fire contained by the sprinkler system. Firefighters used an extinguisher to put out the remainder of the fire, locating a victim in the apartment. The victim was transported to a local hospital, suffering from smoke inhalation and burn injuries. The remaining building occupants sheltered in place or were temporarily relocated during the incident and have all returned to their apartments. No other apartments in the building were affected by the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but appears to be accidental. Assisting the WCFPD were the fire departments/districts from St. Charles, Geneva, Carol Stream and Wheaton.
