The West Chicago Paper Shredding and Medical Disposal Event held on Saturday, June 1, was a great success. Organized annually by the City of West Chicago’s Environmental Commission in collaboration with SCARCE, the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office, and DuPage County, this year's event saw an impressive turnout with 196 vehicles participating between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.
Thanks to the enthusiastic support from the community, the event managed to recycle:
- 13,440 pounds (6.72 tons) of paper
- 29 American flags
- 50 pairs of eyeglasses
- 4 pairs of hearing aids
- 120 pounds of syringes
- 50 pounds of medications/pills
In addition to these recycling efforts, the West Chicago Rain Barrel Program, also organized by the City’s Environmental Commission, successfully distributed 20 rain barrels and one composter during the event.
The City extends its gratitude to all the volunteers and participating organizations who contributed to making this event a wonderful success. Your dedication and hard work are deeply appreciated by the entire community.
