Anniversaries and milestones are a natural time for reflection, commemoration or celebration. Another is Local State and National events. “From statewide programming to national commemorations, we consider how larger conversations affect our community. These themes offer opportunities to draw connections between local history and broader cultural moments.” State Initiatives, such as the commemoration on the 250th Anniversary of the United States, often inspire collaborative efforts across museums and cultural institutions. Hosting Traveling Exhibits gives the Museum an opportunity to share stories and artifacts it might not otherwise have access to, and allows visitors to experience regional, national, or even international perspectives. The questions of residents about a historic building, a former industry of notable resident can lead to an exhibit. “Community curiosity is one of our favorite starting points.” https://merleburl.com
