Soil Removal Project Begins on West Washington Site

Soil Removal Areas on West Washington Site

The City of West Chicago’s West Washington Site Soil Removal Project is underway, with substantial completion anticipated by December 2025, weather permitting. Construction activities will occur north of the Wiant House, 151 W Washington Street, and the West Washington Street Train Depot.

Temporary traffic impacts are anticipated during construction as trucks enter and exit the site from Washington Street.  Other potential impacts include noise and dust during construction, which is generally scheduled between 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Traffic flow may be restricted temporarily during construction, but all streets will remain open to traffic at the end of each workday. Mail delivery, package delivery, and waste collection services are not expected to be disrupted.

Project Details & Contact Information

The project’s proposed improvements include but are not limited to excavation, removal, disposal and backfill of approximately 5,000 cubic yards of soil from the site along with site restoration. The approximate limits of the excavation areas are delineated on the location map above.

Traffic Impacts & Access Restrictions on Nuclear Drive & Northwest Avenue During Construction

Road Construction

The City of West Chicago’s Nuclear Drive & Northwest Avenue Reconstruction Project is underway, with substantial completion anticipated by October 2025, weather permitting. Construction activities will occur along Nuclear Drive from Harvester Road to the dead end, and along Northwest Avenue from Nuclear Drive to dead end.

During construction, motorists traveling in the project area may experience temporary traffic restrictions and limited driveway access during work hours. Two-way traffic will be maintained during construction, which is generally scheduled between 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

All streets will remain open to traffic at the end of each workday. Mail delivery, package delivery, and waste collection services are not expected to be disrupted.

Impacted Notifications & Overnight Street Parking

Impacted property owners have been provided with detailed project information. Any necessary future updates will be communicated directly by City staff or the City’s authorized contractors and consultants.

On-Street Parking

On-street parking or stopping will not be permitted during construction. All other local parking restrictions and signage shall be obeyed in the construction zone. The City’s Police Department can be reached at (630) 293-2222 for any questions.

Traffic Restrictions and Driveway Access Limits on Bishop & Brown Streets During Construction

The City of West Chicago’s Bishop Street and Brown Street Water Main and Streets Rehabilitation Project is underway, with substantial completion anticipated by August 2025, weather permitting. Construction activities will occur along Bishop Street from Forest Avenue to Brown Street, and along Brown Street from Bishop Street to Neltnor Boulevard (IL-59).

During construction, motorists traveling in the project area may experience temporary traffic restrictions and limited driveway access during work hours. Construction is scheduled to take place during the following times:

  • During the regular school year: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday
  • During summer break: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday

All streets will remain open to traffic at the end of each workday. Mail delivery, package delivery, and waste collection services are not expected to be disrupted.

Impacted Resident Notifications & Overnight Street Parking

Overnight Street Parking

2025 Roadway Rehabilitation Project: Anticipated Traffic & Driveway Access Restrictions in Multiple Areas

The City of West Chicago’s 2025 Roadway Rehabilitation Project is underway, with substantial completion anticipated by September 2025, weather permitting.

During construction, residents in the project area may experience temporary traffic restrictions and limited driveway access during work hours. Construction is scheduled to take place Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All streets will remain open to traffic at the end of each workday. Mail delivery, package delivery, and waste collection services are not expected to be disrupted.

Streets Included in 2025 Rehabilitation Work

The following locations in the Cornerstones Lakes and Forest Trails neighborhoods are in this year’s rehabilitation work:

Cornerstones Lakes:

  • Andrus Drive from Davenport Drive to Bainbridge Boulevard
  • Bainbridge Boulevard from Blanchard Lane to Lehman Drive
  • Havens Drive to Blanchard Lane
  • Wyeth Drive to Bainbridge Boulevard
  • Culver Lane from Adelia Lane to Camden Drive
  • Camden Drive from Adelia Lane to Lehman Drive

Forest Trails:

  • Trillium Trail from Spring Cress Lane to Wild Ginger Lane
  • Wild Ginger Lane from Hawthorne Lane to Trillium Trail
  • Spring Cress Lane from Trillium Trail to Aster Lane
  • Aster Lane from Wild Ginger Lane to Spring Cress Lane
  • Cranesbill Lane from Trillium Trail to Aster Lane
  • Columbine Lane from Trillium Trail to Aster Lane

Impacted Resident Notifications & Overnight Street Parking

Impacted property owners have been provided with detailed project information. Any necessary future updates will be communicated directly by City staff or the City’s authorized contractors and consultants.

If driveway access is restricted during evening hours, overnight street parking will be permitted for affected residents. To submit an overnight parking request, please contact the West Chicago Police Department at (630) 293-2222 or use the online form at westchicago.org/overnight-parking.
